Could there be Third Party Apt in The Hardy Heron

Today at the Ubuntu developer summit. They discussed Third party apt. Which from the discussion would make it easier to install non-Ubuntu supported packages. Which would mean no more custom install scripts and complicated instructions.

10 Reasons To Use Ubuntu As Your Operating System

1.The Cost. It is completely free, you can download and burn it or they will send you a free cd. The majority of software is also free.

2.Stability. As with the majority of Linux distros its stable and will not bog down over time like some other operating system does

3.Speed. Its extremely fast for all it offers. I do know that there are faster distros but they don't bring to the table what Ubuntu does

4. Ease of use. To be honest I was worried about learning the gnome interface but was flying around within minutes . I have always heard that all versions of Linux were difficult to use, but Ubuntu is easier than windows from installing the operating system to installing software

5.Support. The Ubuntu forms are amazing. I watched someone post a question and within 10 minutes they had an answer. The users are friendly helpful and active 24 hours a day.

6.Driver Support. When I installed ubuntu and first logged in it told me there was proprietry drivers for my video card and made it extremely easy to install them. everything else was installed perfectly. With windows I had to download drivers for my network card, video card, and sound card, then install reboot install reboot install reboot. Drivers are not a problem like many are led to believe

7. Visual Appeal. With Compiz Fusion the visual appeal is eye popping.

8. Security. With Ubuntu You have a very very tiny chance of getting spyware or a virus. With the other operating system I was using I would remove at least 24 pieces of spyware per week.

9. Updates. The Integrated Software Update Tool not only updates the operating system but also installed applications. No more going to the site or using the application update button they just get updated

10.It works and works right

My goodbye letter to microsoft windows

Dear Microsoft windows,

We have been together for 17 years. When version 3.0 came into my life I was wowed. Then you worked and became even better in 3.x.

The next thing I knew windows 95 was in my life and I was speechless, you were a beautiful sight.

When I heard windows 98 was on the way I waited in line on the day of release, and was not disappointed. I began to fall in love . I know others laughed at you talked about your flaws, but I didn't see any flaws. You were perfect.

Then 2000 professional was suddenly there and I knew I was in love. I decided to deepen our relationship to a long term commiment and became a microsoft certified professional, and a microsoft system engineer. Things were great.

You then evolved into windows xp. Pure beauty. I don't know what happened you began to distrust me , began to check up on me with windows genuine advantage. Three times you accused me of obtaining you illegal. You became critical of the dvds I watched. You would tell me I couldn't watch them even tho I rented them. when I updated the media player I could not watch videos online anymore. It seems that with every update you became less and less stable. I had to work 2-4 hours a week on you to keep you running perfectly. Then one day you updated and rebooted without my permission which caused me to lose some personal work. How dare you.

When Vista was released I read the reviews and realized that there was no future for us. You became overpriced for the full package. More distrustful than I could imagine. Asked for more and more hardware. Even then ran slow. you are more unstable than I want to cope with. Windows I will miss you but the future of desktop operating systems is not with you.

I will be happy for I have found the future operating system. Its fast, stable, extremely easy to use, sexy and doesn't want to empty my wallet. It offers more than you ever could and its called Ubuntu 7.10
