Everex launches $198 Ubuntu Linux gPC at Wal-Mart

The system will be offered by Wal-Mart on Beginning November 1. I can not find out if it will only be there on-line store or there retail outlets.

the specs are

1.5GHz, VIA C7-D processor
512MB of system memory
80GB hard disk drive
DVD-ROM/CD-RW optical drive
six USB 2.0 ports
RJ45 Ethernet port
RJ11 port
serial and parallel port
For graphics, it uses a VIA UniChrome Pro chipset on the motherboard. This, in turn, uses 64MB of system memory
No monitor included the cheapest monitor at Wal-Mart is $150 brining the entire system price to $348 dollars

Everex decided to use
Enlightenment instead of gnome as its inerface. there reasoning is the hardware requirements are lower.

While this seems this is a good way for Ubuntu to get to the masses . The fact that they used
Enlightenment might hurt them, because Enlightenment uses very radical and unique concepts which require a little bit of patience to learn.

But we will just have to wait and see
